Oliver Vowles-Burrows

My early career began studying at Falmouth School of Art and Design.  I then trained in a jewellery design workshop after which I joined my mother Pamela Burrows in the business as a Designer Jeweller. 

 

My Jewellery is handmade using traditional techniques allowing each created piece to be unique and bespoke.  I am inspired by the landscape and environment around me as I interpret the hidden shapes and forms I notice within the coast, mountains and hills.  My work encompasses solid, sculptural aspects featuring one or more semi-precious stones and waves or slabs of gold that reflect rugged cliffs and rock formations.  

 

I have developed my own language of shapes over time, I believe we all have this inner ability to interpret our surroundings though the language of shape and design and it is something which connects us to nature and the environment.  As such this understanding connects us to the past with a forgotten meaning very much like the people who chose the stones and built the stone circles of Ireland.

 

The Jewellery is made using mostly Yellow, Red and White 9ct Gold and Argenteum Silver.  Argenteum silver is stronger, brighter, whiter and purer than Sterling Silver.  

 

I have a large selection of specially chosen beautiful gemstones collected over the years from travelling to different parts of the world.  I am also able to source stones from Wards in the UK, which gives me privileged access to a wide selection of precious and semi-precious gemstones. 

 

My family and I have recently moved from Cornwall to West Cork in Ireland where I am finding new inspiration from the dramatic landscapes around me.
